There’s something wickedly fun about a good anti-hero. Don’t we all love to hate a really well written villain who is smart enough to outwit the reader? Let’s discuss bad guys, particularly the bad guys who didn’t start out that way. They’ve existed forever (or at least since Shakespeare wrote Macbeth) but they’ve gotten very popular in recent literature and film (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Gone Girl, etc.). This seminar will explore the appeal of the “negative character arc” and why it’s cathartic to watch ordinary people spiral out of control.
